I've been trying to fix my friend's laptop (Dell XPS M1530). It was freezing on boot up, I tried to just fix it using a couple of tricks that have worked before but nothing.

Anyway, I eventually gave up and installed a fresh copy of vista. It all installed ok and I've got to the desktop and all looks well. I tried connecting to the internet so I could download all the updates and such but it says that it cannot connect to the internet. I thought this would be fine I'd just tell it to use the onboard wifi. Problem is I can't find it. I checked device manager but couldn't really find much - don't really know what I'm looking for, no idea I how onboard wifi works or what it's called. So I took a screenshot:

I'm guessing it's one of the other/unknown devices that just hasn't installed correctly for whatever reason. I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that I used the vista cd that shipped with the laptop, I presume it's not the same as a normal vista cd, and perhaps I installed it wrong somehow.

I tried searching for the drivers on the vista cd but nothing.

What should I do?

I was hoping that if I could connect to the net then I could just download all the windows updates and it would sort it all out. I can't even try it wired as I have no cable atm.

Thanks for any help.

Hmm, just had a thought, wouldn't I need to install the chipset drivers or something first?

Just had a look on the dell website for drivers and found this page.

Any ideas as to which ones to get or should I just download the lot onto USB and transfer it over?

The first or 4th networking ones look the most likely. Going to be a case of trial and error though, I'm afraid.
