strange one here
I've a HP 4050 laser with an additional tray for headed paper (tray 3) normal paper in tray 2 and the MPF tray 1
I've got it installed/setup on a vista business desktop over the (workgroup) network and it has 3 shortcut settings that I've set up:
option 1 is MPF, single sided, (Forms)
option 2 is Tray 2, Double sided (Draft)
option 3 is Tray 3, Single sided (Headed)
all set to A4 paper

there are also two default factory options that I can't delete/change (dunno why)
Factory 1 Any tray, letter (size), single sided (Factory Defaults)
Factory 2 Any tray, A4, Double sided (User Guide Print Settings)

these show up on all the other PC's on the network that I've installed the shared printer on so when a user goes to print in word they can pick what one to use.
the only issue I've found is that if you try and print in outlook, no matter what you select as the option in printing pref it changes the tray option to "any" and prints from tray 3 with the headed paper.

I'm using the HP universal printer driver that I downloaded from the HP site (only one on offer for the 4050 on vista). does anyone know a workaround for this? not too happy about printing draft stuff on headed paper!

Change the Print Processor back to WinPrint (RAW), ditch the stupid HP processor. Also, you might have to fuss a little with the paper tray options, set tray 3 to manual or something. HP drivers are the worst.

It's not as bad as it sounds. Just switch the processor to WinPrint (see cap). Another thing that has hit-or-miss results is switching from the PCL to PS driver or vice-versa.
