Vista Shutdown and Startup.

For a month or two now I have limited myself to using my 2nd PC with Windows MCE XP 2005 for most of my work. I am fed up with the fact that windows Vista restarts after I Select Shutdown from the start Menu, most of my startup programs will not startup automatically. A simple program like Adobe Downloader even refuses to startup and I have to go into the Menu Bar to tell it to execute. Along with programs designed to start with the Sidebar not starting at all I am rapidly getting tired of the whole UAC ***p.
I have persisted with Vista because it has so much to offer but I am running out of patience now and may even return all my licences to Microsoft for a refund on poor product release. I was a Beta tester of the original and I must admit I have been heavily disappointed by this release version. I believed that MS would have released a Service pack by now because of all the B**ls ups in this initial release.
Pity really I a losing interest in my PC's and I used to spend a lot of time working on them, but this O/S has lost me - perhaps for good.
I for one cannot understand an O/S that needs to have a program begin at the beginning of the session needing to have a security setting turned off to run Windows how I am used to having it run.
I have heard all the so-called solutions like administrative rights and so on, but to deny a high powered company like Adobe which supplies a large amount of software for the professional PC market having one of their programs loading at startup in my opinion is criminally insane of MS.
I have heard many a new user of Vista Cussing over programs designed to run on Vista not being able to run because of this abhorrant UAC version being used by microsoft which is getting worse by the day.
I may just plug a mouse and keyboard into my PS3 to Browse the web in future and use windows XP as my Primary O/S still.

Strange I don't have any problems with startup and shutdown. Also if you hate UAC so much then why not just turn it off?

Sounds like some serious installation or driver issues you're having there. Might be worth doing a full reinstall with the latest drivers (don't use anything off CDs that came with your hardware), and see if you get better results.

Sorry fellas but isn't disabling the UAC defeating the issue. The issue here should and always should be that if programs are desined to be used at startup and MS wre aware of this issue before release of 2600 Vista shouldn't they also make leaway for those permissions to be met without arguement.
So everytime one of your graphic cards disagrees with a program you instantly turnoff the graphics card leaving you with no display. Sorry that doesn't wash.
The problem with Vista is that only Ultimate was truely tested. None of the others received attention. So a version like premium, or Home Basic is not even on the support list at MS So if you ask them a question you will get a very expensive phone call stating everything but the obvious.
These various other programs like Tweak-UAC are pugwash because all they do is the same as if you turned off UAC from the Network control panel with the exception that in one case you are wrongly led to believe it is still turned on and not coming up with any of those security warnings. poking a registry value here and there just doesn't wash. what is needed is a program whitelist and a program blacklist. Much the same as an antivirus program works. MS did have this in place up until 3 weeks before release and aborted it saying that it encouraged favouritism. What about a program whitelist for our own use. This would be a beginning. But I am afraid boys you have lost me here. Why should I play about with something that shouldn't need playing about with.

You must be doing something different to the rest of us. Of course we turn off UAC :)

You should just turn it off.

What the hell are you on about?

Why was UAC put into Vista? A: Because a lot of users were installing programs onto their family PC and wondering why things went wrong and they were getting Virus attacks etc. etc. UAC stands for User Access Control but when an Administrator cannot govern that Access control it becomes Microsoft Access control. There are many programs which I would like to work and even upgrade but because the UAC (MAC) is stopping certain parts of the program to run at startup and I have to manually run the program then because Microsoft in their Ultimate wise ass ways have denied me that choice. This is not an issue with windows server 2003. You have complete control over software installation and access.
I have Done a complete debug of my system eliminating display drivers Network sound and Motherboard bridge drivers. The only thing I haven't done yet is put a stick of dynamite in the thing and watch it go fizz. But on the serious side I remember when Vista was launched MS said don't worry if you have a problem you shouldn't have to phone anyone-- the operationg system has its own fault diagnostic system which will endeavour to find a solution and repair the issue. Does anyone remember that?
Perhaps I am just fed up that there are no answers on Technet as well but I still stand by my word that MS are and have been dancing around the issue.

Instead of complaining about Microsoft why don't you just turn off UAC? You obviously can't re-write the way it works so just work with what you have.

You might not be getting answers on technet because there is no issue with it, I've never had to turn it off and everything runs fine. Also as I and everyone else has said, if its bugging you just turn it off.
As for the problem reports and solutions tool, whats wrong with it? It does tell you some issues and how to fix them.
