hey, all of a sudden my 64bit vista Ultimate computer won't shutdown on me. It willd just stay on the "windows is shutting down" forever.

I've tried uninstalling/undoing all software, hardware and drivers that I put on within the past 5 days (did a system restore to a working restore point and uninstalling alll the software I had put on it since).

Alas its still not shutting down. Any way I can tell what's stopping it from shutting down? Or do you guys have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

How long have you left it? A couple of times my PC has taken about 15 minutes to shut down. No idea why.

when i do leave it, it BSOD's

I tried this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943412 and it says the update doesn't apply to my system (i tried both files just in case).

Having a look in the event viewer, it says steam and CCC are causing it shutdown slowly. But I never ran steam in the 1st place, and CCC has never given me problems before

Yeah, reinstall Steam, and uninstall the ATi drivers, DriverSweep 'em, and then install 'em again. ATi drivers were causing me a BSOD on hibernate before.

*cold shudder*

have had very bad experiences with DriverSweeper, so will use it as a last resort, will uninstall ATI drivers using control panel and will submit a steam support ticket. For a temporary fix, i changed the "waittokill" in the registery to 1000.
