With XP you'd get that dialog if the PC was a member of an AD domain, not too sure how Vista behaves in a domain though.

I think it's to do with netgear software for wg111 it changes xp's login screen but I knew how to fix that, it was the GINA.dll.
So there's no restart option on vista under the start menu shutdown tab if our on classic view ? shouldn't I have a screen like this

No matter swapped back to xp cant stand all the problems with my games on vista. And the ridiculous hard drive thrashing even with superfetch indexing readyboost etc disabled.

Just curious what game problems you were having?

Also just turning off the service does not always solve the problem of disc thrashing.

pes6 (slowdown issue lag issue kitserver issues and strange noises sounding like a gamepad issue)
company of heroes (found it very laggy and slow compared to xp)
and ati tray tools doesn't work properly even if you disable the driver signing in safe mode vsync didn't work with cats 8.9.

I just knew i couldn't stick with vista the moment pes6 had issues my most played game.
Kept finding issue after issue as I went on and just cant be bothered trawling the net trying to fix stuff.
I do like vista though but to me it's just xp with a transparent skin don't see the point at the moment will probably go straight to windows 7 from xp.
And I only have 2 gb of ram not that it matters as hardly anything uses over 2 gigs.

My impressions were good but I couldn't help but think hang on a mo this is just xp with a modded skin and dx10 support ? all it does is install everything under programs x86 lol
I may go back to it when more issues are ironed out and Im no longer playing older games which to be fair is probably why the issues.

I'd like to lay something to rest though vista startup is no quicker than xp when it's configured well.
If anything vista has a slower startup time.

One thing that I found really annoying was you cant get rid of that burn icon in folder explorer or customize it at all i couldn't even add a delete icon.

Overall I just don't see any benefits over xp pro what so ever apart from aero and having a nicer looking desktop.

Friend of mine plays PES6 on Vista 64 just fine. I personally find CoH great, certainly no slower than XP. Sure you were running in DX9? Not sure why you were having issues with those games.

When I turn my PC on it has booted and is fully usable within about 40 seconds, which for me at least is faster than XP, which is not usable until after it's finished loading every little thing, unlike Vista which can be used from the second the desktop appears, more or less. I don't even have a particularly fast PC and I'm sure you could get it down to 30 seconds or less on a better system. If you use the sleep feature that time can be cut to something like 10 seconds, never actually timed it but it's pretty damn quick.

The reason yours could have taken a long time is you disabled the ReadyBoost service, which the ReadyBoot feature uses. (foolishly imo, I don't get why you would disable major Vista features then complain about it)
