Vista - Shutting down problems

Hi everyone,

I've just built myself a new pc, and installed vista. I have some little issue I would like to get over and done with. When I restart through the start menu, the OS will shutdown but will not restart so I have to manually reset. When I shutdown the OS will shutdown, but the pc won't so I have to manually turn the system off by pressing the switch. Also when the pc is shutdown, the keyboard keys still function, ie the numlock light and the function light of the keyboard remain lit eventhough the pc is off.

Any ideas? BTW all startup functions in bios are disabled.

I have a Maximus Extreme mobo.

start > Power options (type this in start search) > change when the computer sleeps > Power Button > Start Menu Power Button - Sleep (change this to shut down)

or you could just click the little arrow (from the start button) in the bottom right hand corner and click shut down from the list

Hi Guys, even though I changed the power button option to shutdown the PC won't shutdown. Even when choosing to shutdown from the drop down list, do you think there's an option in the bios?

I disabled all power saving options in Vista (and the BIOS) to get my PC to shutdown completely, having insisted on rebooting instead.

Thanks for your help, it seems when i put it in hibernation mode the pc goes quiet. I will check if I did connect the reset and the power connections properly.

Thanks for your help
