I have recently aquired a copy of Vista build 5600 RC1 after installing found that i have no sound. i get a message above the speaker in task bar that says no audio device installed. No problem so i down loaded the nvidia vista mobo drivers and tried to install them but get a message that says that im not the administrator. As there are no other account and it shows me as the administrator in user accounts. Im stumped
Also to confound the issue even more, one of my mate how has the same mobo as me has been able to install Vista on his pc without the sound issues that i am having. He had sound as soon as the install had finished.
I was wondering if there is anyone that can tell me what can be done as i am tearing my hair out. i didnt have much to start with. Thanks

have you downloaded all the updates?

also diable uac, user access control from the user section n control panel.

My sound was sorted as soon as i downloaded all the updates.

The permissions in Vista are a pain in the ass but its put there because they were mocked about security with XP.

You should be able to right click, Run as Administrator. Or Right click the file, go to properties then security and change access as required.

As Datamonkey said, my mobo drivers were downloaded through Windows Update and everything seems ok so far.

yeah i have done the updates and there was only 1 but nothing to do with sound drives or mobo. i cant remember as to what it was at the moment. im not near my pc at the moment to find out what it was.
