Hi guys,

I've got Ultimate on a laptop and it's not showing SP1 in Windows Update yet?

There are two other machines in the house with Vista, Basic and Home Premium, and they've both had it appear and install through Windows Update?

Is there an issue with Ultimate and SP1 that I should know about? I know I can download it from the MS site, but I was hoping it would just download on it own… I've been waiting since it was released :o

Should I wait or just download it manually?

Cheers,

SW.

Got SP1 ultimate 32-bit on my other PC (64-bit on main) and it received the SP1 update a few days ago, wait a few days before manually installing it, I remember back when SP2 was release people were getting it days later than others.

It's not showing for some, it will show up by the end of April though. I suggest downloading the standalone package.

Could be an issue:

I know MS said there were some driver incompatibilities. I installed Vista SP1 slipstreamed onto my desktop, and it was taking 5mins+ to boot.

Formatted, Installed Vista RTM, then installed SP1 Offline Install. Same result. Formatted again.

Gave up and left it as RTM. It showed up in Windows Update earlier, so I installed it (quite prepared to have to uninstall it), and it works fine.

Also, SP1 will only show up once you've installed just about every other update showing in Windows Update.

I don't have VISTA but from what I understand it will show up under Windows Update if your VISTA install does not have any incompatible drivers. Once Windows Update checks your system and finds no problems then it will allow you to download and install it.

In csmager's case downloading SP1 standalone install gave him problems due to the unknown incompatibilities with his system. Once these were resolved Windows Update allowed SP1 to be installed.

In short you're better off waiting for it via Windows Update as (in theory) this will mean your system is ok for it to be installed.

just dl the standalone sp1 for 32bit and everything still works boots at the same speed.

even shows 4 gig on memory now as welll woooootttt.

the only thing it wont show on the windows experince is my true processor speed

Im missing summat I know, but I have tried to grab the Standalone SP1 but the only thing I am seeing is a small kickstarter updater thats a few K big... Not the entire Service Pack.

Can you get it, and if so... Where?

The Sp1 update actually shows up in my update menu, not sure I should install that one or download the standalone version.
I am on 64 bit Ultimate.
**runs scared of the high possibilities of system breakage** !

Hello kingo15, I would just like to point out that Windows Vista Service Pack 1 changes the way the Operating System reports the amount of RAM that you have installed in your machine. So, if you are using the 32-bit edition of Windows Vista you still don't have access to the full 4GB of RAM that you have installed even though the Operating System is displaying 4GB of RAM. :)

when i install Vista SP1 clean without any drivers it boots ok but after i install my drivers it takes 4-5minutes to boot sometimes longer, ive even downloaded it from WU but it's the same. and now xp is doing it .. so im keeping with the Vista SP1 slipstreamed, it works fine...

you know it can't use the ram yeah?

it's not ms 'holding back' the 32bit version either, it's just a limitation of 32bit os's

imo, they should have made vista & 2008 64bit only

Right guys, my Vostro laptop is still not seeing SP1 in Windows update...

I've installed EVERYTHING from the WU menu apart from the 36 or so language packs?

I know some people have said that SP1 wont appear until the rest of your system is compatible, so something obviously still outstanding?

I'm trying to resist the temptation of downloading the standalone pack - I like things to be automated :D

Cheers,

SW.

I have downloaded the standalone 5 times and all 5 times it has corrupted somehow?
It tries to work, but then fails.
I have given up, Im back on XP64 anyway, so I will try again in another month or so, but for now, Im just glad that I am not having to pretend that Vista is great.

Could just be a driver on your system that Microsoft don't think is compatible with Vista yet, even if everything is upto date.
