Recently my mums laptop has started playing up, well Vista. When you open the start menu to view the most recently used program there's the list, now earlier whenever you clicked anything it wouldn't open, but I seem to have solved that. But now Office programs (word, access, etc.) still wont open, checked the shortcut links and they seem fine, and they do open if you go All Programs > Microsoft Office > Word.
