vista start menu

hi my start menu has disappeared, but only programs that i have installed they are still installed i can run them if i go to c drive then program files. why have they disappeared from the start menu?

Then a fresh install is always welcome, I did one the other week when I couldn't stop explorer crashing everythime I right clicked on a desktop incon...

Got a working Acronis image now so can restore when needed.....
