Vista Startup & Shutdown Issues

Hi guys,

I have 2 issues I need some assistance with.

Firstly

I've just upgraded to Vista HP 64bit, the OS is installed on to a RAID0 volume. It runs with no problems at all, however for some reason which I cannot figure out vista will only start when the install disc is in the dvd drive.

If I switch the pc on without putting the vista disc in the system hangs after POST stating "disk boot failure insert system disc and press enter to continue"

Secondly,

On shutdown/restart the system hangs on a black screen and won't actually power off or reboot.

I've installed all relevent chipset & raid drivers on the ASUS website and vista is fully updated. Full system specs in sig.

If anyone has any ideas as to solutions to either of these i'd be grateful, as quite simply, I'm stumped.

check in your bios to see if your hdd is selected as 1st bootup device.

Yep, HDD is set as first boot device.

that sounds like a driver problem... check your graphic card driver. what other things do you have connected to your computer?

Latest nVidia graphics drivers installed, no other hardware connected to the PC at the moment.

The shutdown issue seems a bit more than that tbh, windows does shutdown, but it won't physically power off the pc. And it won't actually re-boot when I select restart either.

did you have xp before vista ? if you did, did xp shutdown ok? ive had this problem once and it was a driver that stoped it from powering off..

Yes, xp was running on this system up until friday with no issues at all. It was only on a single SATA drive though. The RAID array is also new as of Friday.

I've just uninstalled the nVidia RAID and chipset drivers in case there was an issue there and the problem still remains. Any other ideas guys, now I'm really stumped.

Well, I've tried re-installing vista and the problem is still exactly the same as before.

However, I did notice that when selecting which drive to install vista on during setup that it was seeing the RAID array as Drive 1 and my lone sata drive as drive 0. Could that be causing the startup issue?

I've checked the bios and the raid array is set as the first drive and the lone sata drive as the second so I can't work out why vista is seeing them the other way around. If this could be the issue, does anyone know how to fix it?

u could try checking the satas cables on the motherboard. the hdd with windows on should be in the 1st sata port...

Windows is installed on the RAID array so the 2 HDD's are on SATA 1&2 already.
