I have seen this a few times and it is generally caused by a corrupt calendar.

When a user logs on vista runs a scheduled task which will pop up any calendar reminders.

There are 2 options here.

1) Delete and recreate the calendar
2) Disable the scheduled start-up task (This disables reminders!)

To disable the scheduled task
-----------------------------

Control panel / Administrative tools / Task Scheduler

In the left hand Payne Expand "Task Scheduler Library" / "Microsoft" / "Windows".

Click "Windows Calendar"

In the right hand, top Payne right click "Reminders - " and select disable.
