Vista ---- the correct version ?

yes a valued point ,and can always upgrade at a later date ,if your CPU is x64 then you have saved out buying one of them later ;)

as soon as all the drivers are correct for the 64 version i will change , i did have Windows XP 64 , what a waste :)

yeah thats what my mate said ,i know things have moved on since xp x64 ,but its still not good enough ,i would have thought this would be a lot better than it is ,seems strange that the Yanks can put a man on the moon ,but can,t seem to put out a 100% OS ..or in x64 bit anyway .. :rolleyes:

did you not read the other posts?
This is not anything like the Xp64 scenario, both 32bit and 64bit drivers will mature at the same pace.

Why are people saying dont get 64 unless you have 4gb of ram?
64bit means it can properly take advantage of 4gb of ram, yea? Not having 4gb of ram doesnt give a performance hit compared to 32bit does it?
And the 64bits already been benchmarked as faster(with 512 ram)
 
I would have got Vista 64 but i cannot trust the drivers , i know that the problems with X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS Edition drivers and i am not 100 % about my Asus 8N SLI - Deluxe motherboard , as for my G7 & MX Revolution they are fine also my 8800GTS should be no problems

you seem to have same set up as me apart from i have 7950gt

And i have run the vista driver software check came up fine

and check drivers my self for 64bit and all seem ok to me

where did you get the software driver check from the link ? :confused:
 
Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor of microsoft website

says all the drivers are built in to vista except xfi and nvidia but there just a download of crearive and nvidia website even has has printer and scanner drivers too (save me some time )

friend of mine live in crew got his vista copy already and he has same mobo and xfi says works all ok stright out box

but dont matter if your 64bit or 32 bit you still have the xfi problem apart from that you should be ok (there is no direct sound in vista any more so thats why there's some problems but games running Openal should work fine )

Well as I said above, for drivers to get certification the manufacturer needs to submit both 32 and 64 bit versions for testing.

If drivers don't get certification, they can't be installed. Simple as.

This way, both 32 and 64 bit versions of Vista will mature at the same rate, and owners of either won't be worse off.

Whether this means that companies pull their fingers out to get drivers working or they slack, will tell with time.
 
Does it actually take up the 15GB it gives as a requirement? I assume that might be for everything installed with Ultimate but would like to know if anyone who has it can tell me.
 
iv just spotted that and wondered the same things, since iv got 3 hard-drives(160&250x2) and they all have 2.1-2.5gbs left :(

How many times have these issues been resolved. Time and time again. Yet still the same doubting questions. Same with "What version of Vista should I get , Ultimate, Home Premium". Likewise "OEM" vs "Retail". The same arguments, the same fluff.

Please. Please. It's time for a sticky.

Get 64 Bit Ultimate Retail and be completely future proof...

u sure :p You don`t need over 4Gb
