Vista Trialware ?

you can install Vista without entering a key (simply pick the version and confirm) and this can be used for 30 days until it stops working.

If you have a friend with a Vista disk you could install from that and use it for the 30 days without activating.

Legally?

I don't see why not as you aren't using pirate software and aren't trying to activate it using a key you haven't purchased...

Well common sense would suggest it's fine but I fully expect MS to have placed something in the T&Cs about this.

Burnsy would probably know.

if u have a vista disk like vista home premium disk, u can install any other version of vista as a trial legally from the disk. but after the 30days is up u must format your hdd or purchase a key...

Nope.

The activation grace period is NOT a trial. It is simply there to allow people to activate their licenced product.

Legally, you cannot use Vista without a licence, even if it's not activated.

Now give me a half reputable source. I would have just about accpeted PC World, only they don't actually say it's a trial. Or even a site that say trial without "". Maybe that tells you something.

Even better, give me a quote from MS or a link to their trial download on their website.

Why would MS allow you to trial the software without making it publicly avaliable? How often can you get a disc without a licence?

It's simply not a trial although has been called one.

ok. let's say u bought vista basic dvd and in 2-3months time u decided that u wanna upgrade to a different version but u don't know which version to upgrade too. thats why MS as done vista so u can install vista without the product key and choose a version that you wanna try before paying for the anytime upgrade or dvd.... because why would MS let vista install without the product key and lets u choose a version??

Sorry, Burnsey is right... Activation has nothing to do with how legal it is to install Vista without a key. For a legal version of Vista you must have your own key and media.

The 30days is just to give legal owners some leeway in activation (in case for example the cannot acces the internet or phone MS for a while for whatever reason after an install/reinstall.

so MS as done wrong by letting vista be able to install without the product key and lets u choose a version... it shouldn't let u be able to install without the product key, like other versions of windows... you can't say am wrong about this bit...
