I've seen quite a few people having a problem trying to dual boot Vista and Ubuntu, it seems that Vista was overwriting the MBR everytime they went into Vista and then shut it down?

I'm looking at doing this myself over the weekend so if anyone has any advice...

I dual boot Arch and Vista, using Grub. haven't had a single problem, the only thing I would recommend is installing Vista first, then letting Ubuntu ovewrite the MBR, after that im 90.4% sure vista wont try to overwrite it when its shutdown (unless its an ubuntu specific issue).

I googled it and found a recent thread on a forum and loads of people had the same problem.

They were saying that whenever they went into vista and then shut down, it would overwrite it.

I'll try find it again now..

Maybe they were just all idiots :D

I've just used linux for ages but I do remember having to install XP first to stop it overwriting the MBR.

I think I should be more concerned about my built-in wireless adapter on my laptop working...

EasyBCD. Excellent and easy to use tool.

Install Ubuntu so that the bootloader (GRUB) is installed to a little /boot partition.
Reboot once installed, go into windows, install EasyBCD and point it to the /boot partition. Bobs your uncle, Ubuntu boot option from the vista bootloader.

Ok i'll just try do it without messing around with the bootloaders first, and then do so if I have to.

I need to do a fresh install of Vista first so this might take abit ;[
