after getting a free copy of ultimate of my idiot boss (yea i no lol he didnt no what he was giving me) any way i have it installed on my lappy for now, but upon looking at the hard drive space now free, it would seem that vista has taken up a whopping 15gb of my hd lol is this normal or have i got extra content that am not using/needing or getting

Strange, i have ultimate installed fully on a 20gb partition on my laptop, and even with other apps installed i have used just under 10gb... ???

System restore off? Only thing I can think of currently... But, iirc Vista 'needs' 15Gb, of course, Vlite soon sorts that. :)

wotda are there any other programs like vlite that can trim the weight of the vista hd space ????

Not that I know, other than the recycle bin. :p

bledd or someone might be in here later with a whole host of suggestions though.

Check control panel and unistall all those "features" you'll never use?

Clear the system restore points, or disable it?

Run disk cleanup - this helps a lot more than you think. :)

[Edit] My HP x64 install is just over 10GB.

yup i did a clean up and turned of restore coz i never use it any way and its still above 10gb lol nice big bloated software m$ have got us here :p

this is after installing office 2003 and loads of other junk. it would be well under 5gig on a clean install. also my pagefile is 1.8gb so vista itself is using just 3.2gb.

i've removed all the builtin drivers and vista annoyances. windows defender, uac and the indexing service are gone for good.

vlite wouldn't copy the files from the dvd for me so i copied the files manually and then pointed vlite at the folder on my hard disk. :)
