vista update

think *** I've done is install new sata windows update for vista and now cannot boot as op sys will not see drive, any way I can get past this without recovery disk?

ps this is an acer laptop running vista home now not old specs

I had similar prob after an update, what worked for me was to change the disk drive priority in the bios. Originally had my Rapture SATA which has vista on as Primary and my Maxtor PATA as secondary - changed those priorities around and now boots - wierd but worked.
