Vista upgrade recovery.

Friend has bought his laptop around for me to look at, he's done something nasty to it and it needs reinstalling. The machine came with Vista basic, he'd paid the extorsion to get it upgraded to premium. When i reinstall it's going to give me basic home version again.How do i go about getting back the upgrade bit?

Dunno if it tells you when you go online, i'm just trying to get the details before i start it.

Or should i tell him to forget it and install xp64 instead?

There will be a key in the online digital locker he would have had to create to buy the upgrade online.

I saved mine locally and on my server to make things easier, but you can re-download it from the locker site.

bum, installed xp x64 and nothing on the machine has x64 compatable drivers!
