When connecting my external hard drive to my vista box, i dont get the safley remove hardware icon in the system tray:confused: were does one find the safley remove option in vista? thanks
 
Hello Roeg1, the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon should still appear in the system tray section.

What happens if you plug a different device in, for example, a flash drive?

(Edit) If you open up "My Computer" and then right click on the removable device, there should be an option called "Safely Remove", if you click on that option. It has the same effect as if you did it the other way. :)

sure it's not hidden? mine is when my external hdd is plugged in.

you don't really need the safely remove thing anyway. you should be able to access the drive properties (right click it from my computer) and set it so that you can just unplug it when you're done.

to be honest i thought of both of these or tehre about to no avail.. would u be kind enough to post a screen shot so i can check against my options?
 
ok now i see it in polices but when i got to edit the option tab the option to set "quick removal" is greyed out.:confused:
