The usb drivers on my system have gone quite mad. If something (which was working fine before) needs to be reinstalled (moved usb ports or something) even a usb hub, it will refuse to find the driver even when pointed at them. A few other people have had this happen (from a google) but I've not managed to fix it.

The problem isn't the drivers them selves its vista's inability to notice them that's the problem.

I've not installed sp1 yet, might that solve the problem? I'm waiting to see how people get on.

Try unplugging all USB devices, then deleting C:\Windows\inf\INFCACHE.1 (You'll need to take ownership, and change the security on the file to allow you to delete it).

This resolves one hell of a lot of Vista USB problems.

Do a search on C: (including hidden, system & non-indexed locations) for usbstor

You should find a file usbstor.sys and usbstor.inf in a usbstor.inf_XXXXXXXX folder in the C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\ folder

Copy these into C:\Windows\INF, and restart the computer.
Tried this?
has fixed the same problem you have once or twice for me

Hi, I had this problem. Was getting really infutiating. I rolled back Vista to pre-SP1 last night and it appears to have fixed it.
