Vista, USB storage drives and Code 1 errors

Since I made the barmy decision to install Windows Vista on my PC, I've had trouble using any USB flash drives. Initially I thought it was an iPod problem, but neither of my two USB keys work either. When they are inserted, nothing appears under My Computer, and in device manager they show but with a little yellow warning triangle. Then under the item properties it gives me the message "This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)", which MS just says to update the driver (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/125174).
I have read about a bit and it seems some flavours of Vista have problems with the USBSTOR.inf file, but I’ve followed various ideas and tried downloading a new copy of USBSTOR.inf and pointing it to that, but I'm getting no joy. These USB keys are working in other machines, so its definitely a Vista issue.

Can anyone suggest something to remedy this fault?

Thanks

i had problems when i used 4gb of ddr (works perfectly fine in xp), most of my usb drives wouldn't work, removed the extra 2gb and it worked fine (these pass with flying colours in memtest)
