Vista version question

I am corresponding with a person who wants to sell a windows vista home basic DVD. Not from this forum.
I have explained that I need a retail version not an OEM or upgrade version.
The seller is not to sure which version it is and has look on the box and DVD but found no reference to an OEM version.

So my question is how can you tell what version a vista DVD is?
Is it on the box or on the DVD?

I am just after a cheap version of vista, but i do need a full retail version so I can install it onto my new PC later this year.

That is a retail version? I think it is anyhow
