Vista vs Ubuntu

Was rather nice, I use compiz (after watching that I think ill switch to Beryl).

Although both Aero and Beryl (also compiz and aqua are the same) are both utterly useless. Sure they look pretty but you kinda get bored after awhile. It loses the 'wow' factor.

I have to agree, novelty wears off very quickly and after a week you are left with windows that shake annoyingly every time you touch or move them and completely useless swinging cube desktop switcher. It was back to fluxbox for me.

Having said that. Novelty of aero wears off even quicker. :D

Both look stupid, I want the OS to be a OS, not a videogame. Why exactly would you have two pages & 20 applications loaded up at one time?

I agree with squiffy, it all looks great but all of those features are useless. I love Ubuntu but I am totally uninterested in Vista. However, I am looking forward to all the clever eye candy Apple may throw into Leopard. ;)

Beryl is so pointless and irritating looking.
Agreed, it is way OTT.

Ubuntu is a nice OS though. I used it now and again. I don't have none of that crap on though.

Well not only was that not the latest version of Beryl (latest has some nice new touches) and the desktop was looked so untidy, its not a good video to show how much better Ubuntu is.

Im a big fan of Ubuntu, Linux and open source, but this probably won't win many people over.

Were I not an avid gamer, I'd be highly interested in Ubuntu. Dual-booting's just too much hassle. In a dream world, I'd have 2 PCs, one highly powerful with Windows for all my games, and a less powerful one for Ubuntu to run everything else off. Unfortunately, that's outta my budget at the moment.

yep thats what i do, gaming machine and the ubuntu one for IRC chat and web surfing handy while gaming.

I agree Beryl is pointless, it has some features which could be useful, but it eats battery too fast. KDE4 will come out this year, this is something to look forward to.
