Got a laptop here (Dell Inspiron 1525). To me it looks like the hard disk is going, although it's not that old, the battery recently went (wont charge up or power the laptop at all) which also means that when it's unplugged it's switched off (ie, not shut down)

I get to Vista login and one account wouldn't login at all, it would sit at the Welcome screen forever ... so I logged into the Admin account and made a new one which worked (weeks ago this was) and now, none are logging in.

I tried some stupid startup recovery thing it advised me, which didn't help. I tried booting into safe mode and it freezes at crcdisk.sys. I tried running the chkdisk thingy and that seems to take hours upon hours, I think I have done it before though.

Right okay, just got it logged in to an account (new account) and it instantly freezes up (not completely though - you can move the mouse around)

It looks to me that the hard disk might be really FUBARed.

It's formatted and it seems to be working, after the recovery it said something about D:/ Recycle cin being corrupt. Anyway, the battery doesn't charge (sits at 0%), it's either the battery or charger.

I think I should give Dell a ring/email.

Easiest way to tell is to download and run the drive fitness test tool from whoever made the drive.
