At startup it's blocking a program from starting (LCD Studio). I have to right-click and allow it.

How do I set it so it can actually startup/run? I've looked around Windows Defender and cas see no way of allowing it to just run.

That's a bit over the top aint it, just to autostart one app?

Can you just add it to an exceptions list?
ive had many probs with various programs on startup and have never found a way of automatically starting some programs that require admin acceptance.
if you find a way i would like to know how aswell

We managed fine with XP without UAC and never had issues with "security".

My way of working is to have a decent AV (AntiVIR, AVAST etc) and then a decent hardware firewall behind a well configured router. The router config will protect you from intrusion and the AV will protect you from local or downloaded nasties.

A weekly scan using Spybot/CCleaner will maintain a smooth running OS.

That's my way of working that has not failed me or anyone I recommend it to ever since these apps have been around.

Seems daft! There must be a way of letting Windows Defender know it's OK to start something up.

well i suggest to try then as i havent ever been able to get certain programs to automacially start that require admin acceptance,by the way i would never use Windows Defender anyway its rubbish and uses a lot of resources when turned on there are lots of other free startup programs around have a search

EDIT: just had a thought how about right clicking on the program that is giving you startup problems /properties/compatiablity and manually setting it to to run as admin see if that works?

Yeh, assigned it to start up as administrator and no good.

Turned off UAC and it worked fine!

Is it just Windows Defender that's the generally bad? Or UAC as a whole?

i think its the whole UAC thing in general to be honest im guessing you on vista 64 too?

Edit: just read your sig lol , i think with Vista 64 also the driver signing dosent help with certain programs on startup too

If we're not careful this thread will degenerate into yet another mass debate [pun?] over the merits of UAC.

So I'll sum up before it even happens.....

You will find that many people will stand by UAC, while the vast majority will run screaming in horror from windows defender.

You might want to check the 'allowed programs' list under tools in defender... It might have it there for you to allow.

Remember, Vista was created for many different people... Any many people aren't as technically minded as these forumites and therefore UAC is a godsend (like my mother, she can ruin a windows installation in seconds... Hasn't managed to kill Vista yet!)
