What happened to the XP Picture & Fax Viewer? Now we have this bloated "Photo Gallery" that takes ages to open a simple JPEG.

When I double click a picture file, I expect to see it NOW, not 5 seconds later.

Anyone else feel this pain? Any alternatives?

maybe you should turn off some of the fancy stuff? As my photo gallery thing loads up just as fast as the XP one did.

OK, the delay happens when I click on an image after a fresh reboot, so Vista obviously has to load the Photo Gallery into memory; after that, it loads images instantly.

But still, I don't need ANY of the features that Photo Gallery offers. I just need something simple like the XP Picture viewer.

Anything that will keep my memory usage to a minimun is good by me.

Any suggestions?

Hmm...actually now that you mention it, it's actually just called Windows Photo Gallery. Loads instantly though; no different to the Picture Viewer in XP.

indeed, if you click the button in the top left, it loads up in what i'd call a photo gallery, that took a bit of time for me but my pictures directory is huge.

Has anyone else noticed the zoom isnt as good on Vista WPG? When I zoom in now the picture gets blocky around edges/lines in the image, even on the first zoom...XP PFV used to smooth these out!! :(
