Vista Wireless Internet Connection Keeps Reverting To Local!? :S

Hey guys,

I finally took the plunge and installed Vista (Ultimate 64) on my PC.

My adapter (Belkin F5D7050 Version 3) doesn't have Vista-compatible drivers. However, there are Ralink ones I can use which are programmed for the same chipset. I have those installed and connect to the internet without difficulties. However, very frequently the internet connection is lost and I have only a 'Local Connection'. If I disconnect from that and reconnect then I am back on the web but this is a very annoying and disabling issue. It means I am constantly having to reestablish the link whilst web-browsing and means online gaming is out of the question.

I've Google'd around a fair bit and seen that many people have this issue with various wireless adapters and routers. I've seen a number of different potential solutions but none of them have worked for me. I downloaded the IE plugin which tests my router and it passed my device in every one except for 'unPnP'. However, on my Router IP page this facility is actually enabled. Could this be the issue? If not, please give me some ideas - I'm running out! :(

how was the belkin adapter before vista? I've had no end of problems, even when they are using the correct drivers

Can you please gimme a link, i really need those drivers.

Which version of the adapter do you have? Different companies share different chipsets, so your revision number is important.

Go to the Belkin website and look at their guide to find out and post back here. :)

Googling Belkin F5D7050 vista reveals some contradictory advise on vista beta drivers from Belkin dated feb 2007 and another post with a driver only package dated august 2007, are these what your using?

The same posts have links to ralink site

There are 5 different Belkin F5D7050's and they all require unique solutions for Vista 64. Mine is a revision 3 model and uses "Ralink USB 2.0 Wireless Dongle" drivers. I tried a Belkin update for them that downloaded automatically via Windows Update. It made it impossible to access Windows other than in Safe Mode...

I had to go into the system in Safe Mode and revert the driver to allow normal Vista access again.

I can see why many people are put off Vista, it's still a very broken OS. I'm sure it will improve a lot over time but XP is certainly a much more stable and efficient OS overall atm.
