Hi,

I have recently built and installed a copy of vista x64 on my mac book pro and i works great. I built this as a custom version using vlite, one of the things i removed was UAC as i found it annoying. This is where i have my problem, i am trying to modify the %systemroot%\system32 folder to make vista themeable using the uxtheme patch etc. Now for the life of me i cannot do it because vista won't allow me due to permissions. I have tried changing these permissions but it has not worked. Can anyone help, thanks in advance.

Have you tried enabling the 'true' admin account? I recently found out that the 'admin' account created during install isn't actually an admin account.

See here

HUmm well in that case type cmd in the search, right click on it and do run as admin. From that window you should be able to fiddle with the system32 folder, delete files, copy etc etc.

The above should work as well.

I always find it funny that even some Microsoft programs bundled with Vista don't work properly without being run in admin mode (no self-escalation), way to go compatibility.

Most things i've tried self escalates (as long as uac is enabled) There are a couple of things, such as regedit, which don't but that's because you are allowed to read information from it but not make changes
