Hi guys. I've an MSI P45 motherboard with the Intel ICH10R chipset and Windows Vista x64 installed.
The ICH10R is running in RAID mode which should support both RAID and AHCI functions, and I've just bought a hard disk caddy unit which will allow me to hotswap internal hard disks.
Now I know AHCI is working because at the bottom there is an icon telling me I can unplug my DVD writer, but there is no icon for my extra hard disks.
Can I simply plug/unplug these drives without affecting Windows, or should I be doing something to tell Vista these are hotswappable drives. I notice in device manager the option to 'Optimise for quick removal' or 'performance' are greyed out and unchangable.
Any tips or should I just pull the drive and see?
