Vista x64 - connects to network, but not internet. Any ideas?

Hope you can help, guys.

Just built a PC for my son (Q6600 / Asus P5Q-C).

It connects to my home network (100Mbit LAN), but not to the internet. It can access my router, (a Speedtouch 585 v.6) and do a successful internet connection test, but still cannot access the web.

Any ideas?

what av / firewall software are you using?

try disabling or removing them..

Do you have a default gateway configured on the box, along with DNS Servers ?

With my limited knowledge a DNS problem would be my guess too if the connection test came back positive but you couldn't browse web pages.

No, It is set to obtain an IP address automatically, and a DNS server address automatically.

Should I change this?

good idea mate, older software conflicts sometimes with vista 64, i wonder if the thread starter has tried this..

None - it's a new build / fresh install. Only Firewall is Windows own.
