I have searched for this, and found reference to it, but no resolution so hope that somebody can clear this up for me please.

Have just installed vista x64 on to my system, and in system properties it shows my Q6600 as 2.4ghz @ 2.39ghz. It is overclocked on the bios to 3.61, and that is also what CPU-Z and everest ultimate both show, but not vista. I first tried an install with the BIOS settings oced, then set everything back to default, did a complete reinstall, then re set the bios oc settings, but still only see it at 2.39ghz.

Whats going on?? Can someone please enlighten me

Thanks in advance

Windows only reads the Default Multi on Intel Rigs.

Example, If i set my CPU to 9x400=3.6GHZ, Vista will see it as 4GHZ due to 10x400 (10 being the default Multi).

So will many App's inc sidebar gadgets etc, CPU-Z however can read it correctly.

I ain't sure if this is what your getting at.

Thx for the quick replies, much appreciated.

Find it odd that XP would report the speed correctly but not vista.

Also on searching for info on this it seems some peoples vista installs do show the correct overclocked speeds, not the stock, so a bit odd and inconsistent. Any ideas why this would be???

Multi is 9 x 400 by the way if that makes any difference

Only time I have had overclocks read correctly on a PC was AMD's and thats in XP and Vista.

Does not work on Intels (guess its the Bioses), it always reads the default Multi even if you Raise/Lower it.)

If you left the Multi alone and Raised/Lowered the FSB, Vista should see it correctly.

ok Thx all, i guess i just ignore what vista says and not worry about it then.

My overclock is still there though, right???

For me Vista always has shown my actual clock speed.

Does it not show it in "System properties" like mine? :/

In System Properties mine displays the correct clock.

In the information bar under My Computer, it displays standard. (Intel Q6600 2.40GHz @ 2.40GHz)

No mine shows Q6600 2.4Ghz @ 2.39Ghz, when everything else (well, CPU-Z and Everest) at 3.6, which is what is set in the BIOS.

Is it running in Windows at 2.4 or 3.6???

My computer properties window takes the clock speed and default multi of x10 so rather than 3.00ghz like it actually is, it reads 3.32 or something similar. Not anything major and it bumps up my computer score a little :D which is nice, but also quite pointless :p
