Hi guys not installed SP1 due to mixed reviews, as I await the arrival of my HD4870 should I upgrade??? Are there any other ATi hotfixes I should know about for the 64bit flavour of windows?

Thanks

Hello ripkord , if Windows Update is showing you Service Pack 1 as an available update then there is no reason not to download and install it onto your system. Now, if Windows Update isn't presenting you with Service Pack 1 then that could be to the fact that you may experience some incompatibility problems with some of the devices on your system with Service Pack 1 installed.

Having said that though, if you have a fairly new machine then I honestly can't see Windows Vista Service Pack 1 causing you any problems. Windows Vista does improve the operating system to a certain extent, one area it improves is the amount of prompts you receive from User Account Control when continuing with certain actions, it also improves file transfer rates in some situations, improvements to SuperFetch have been made etc. If you wish to know the full list of changes, then have a look here. Not that you would be particularly interested but you never know. :p:)

the file transfer thing was a real biggy that improved for me after installing sp1 especially when transfering files over the network

theres no problem with that service pack that i have experienced

the problems i had were from xp service pack 3 at work :nightmate:

Most XP SP3 migration probs are solved by using the 500+ Mb version of the stand-alone download, not the incremental 320Meg one on the Windows-Update site.

^ interesting. The SP3 install fails on my home pc. just warns me that my pc is now probably broken please press OK.... haha.

Is the stand alone patch available direct from windows.com or something? Link?
