Ok, I'm about to upgrade my machine and was all set to get a Intel® Core 2 Extreme processor QX6700 (2.66GHz) and vista to go with it. However, after looking at the framerate comparisons for Vista and XP in one of the other threads on here, and being primarily a gamer, I've decided not to purchase just yet because Vista seems to have lower framerates for many games. As I'm wavering about Vista, I wasn't sure if it was worth upgrading to the processor above. So, in short:

Do you guys think that I should get:
the processor, and vista
the processor with no vista
a top end dual core with vista
a top end dual core without vista

Your infinite wisdom is seriously appreciated. :D

to be honest, we can only say how vista runs on our systems.. its impossible to know if it will run on another system well or not. thats because no 2 systems are the same, each act difficulty..

personly vista runs games great, no famerate lose..

i could say yes get the processor, and vista but then again it still may not run well on your system..

Definetly get a Vista license, even if you use XP, you're covered under the downgrade rights and then you can upgrade when you wish.

I'd be inclined to leave vista for another 6 months to mature. I'd consider getting a quadcore for the money you're looking to spend there mate. :) Ok, so they run hot and 4 cores are seldom needed yet, nevertheless, you have it ready for when you need it and there are xeon quadcores available for sensible money now. ;)

Thanks for the feedback guys, I think that I might leave the vista for a while and just get the quad with the option of upgrading later.
