Oem can only be installed on one computer and not moved to another computer or motherboard ever. Whereas retail can be moved between machines.

So if i get the OEM Vista Set.

Install it on my machine and then say a month later i have to format my pc for one reason or another i can still use that same code right?

And your saying it cant be moved is this because the Code will be like deactivated or are you saying it more along the lines of you can use the same code for another machine but its illegal?

When I moved/upgraded my dad motherboard (same Socket 939 but different chipset which from VIA to Nvidia) and used XP PRO SP2 OEM and it worked through activation 4 times included upgraded hard drives but Vista may different way in OEM version and I will find if it same or different - when I used XP SP2 Retail version and sometime it wont let me through activation but found out it was the user name when you type your name during installation and if it different then it wont go through - usual same name that how activate check same user name and any hardwares update,etc.. that same in my dad with OEM version. Find out in Vista new Activation 2.0 system if it accept or not but MS seem change new rules in activation system.

Dont activation right away when you install Vista as it can stay for 30 days and keep check all of it include softwares and if everything ok then go activate it.

Thanks Brave but it might be diffrent on Vista.

Yes i think so - but when my dad PC used OEM and 3 times phoned MS for new product code key and they gave me new one as it accepted but Vista seem to changed new rules - only if you keep same product code key in one disc per PC not more than 2 PCs - that ok.

only when you uninstall first then install again - so just wait until Vista is release that about 3-4 weeks away.

Microsoft are being more strict on activation this time round, with xp they were handing out activation codes to everyone.

Would be interested to know just how careful Microsoft are being.
