Hi

The last couple of Vista32 installs have left large fragments on the HD's. Drive defragmenters won't touch them, 'error checking' finds nothing. On examination the fragments hold "C:\System Volume Information\" then a load of letters and numbers in curly brackets ??.

What is this and how can it be corrected ?. Vista64 had no similar problem.

Anyone ?

Two completely different machines....approx 23% permanently fragmented. I've thought of putting the drives in yet another machine and trying to defrag from that...

that'll be system restore. if you don't use it, you could disable it and free up the space altogether. :)

otherwise get a defragger that supports an "offline" routine - basically it will reboot the pc into a sort of windows safe mode so it has full access to the drive. perfect disk is one. i'm sure there are others. :)
