Hi folks,

Hoping someone can help me with a problem I'm having. I've got an ASUS Maximus Formula motherboard with 4Gb of Patriot 1066MHz DDR2 RAM, 4 RAID Edition Western Digital HDDs arranged as 2 RAID arrays on a 3Ware 9560SE RAID controller. Windows XP and Windows XP64 work fine with this set-up, but Vista is another matter. I just CAN NOT get a stable set-up working. The problem occurs 1 of 2 ways. I can either get it patched up and working until it suffers a random BSOD and then it will fail to boot (PERMANENTLY) after that, or it will simply start failing to boot right out of the blue. By failing to boot I mean it will get as far as the black screen with the scrolling load bar at the bottom and no further - the scrolling bar will just lock up for several minutes, start scrolling again, then freeze again, and so on. With the drive activity light locked on. Hitting reset does nothing - the computer has to be physically switched off and back on again. The only way around this problem is to do a full reinstall, from scratch. I'm using Vista drivers for all my installed hardware and the Vista drivers from 3ware for the controller - but all I'm getting is a lot of frustration for my efforts. The RAID controller also has the latest firmware installed.

I've tried doing a clean install followed by patching with the SP1 RC pack. Everything appeared to be going fine until the final reboot after the patch had finished installing - same problem :/

Anyone got a similar set-up and found a work-around for this?

Thanks for your time,

Charles.
