Vista64 - Copy file to protected folder?

How can i copy a file to either the System32 or SysWOW64 folders in Vista 64?

Ive tried disabling UAC, Safemode, copying from a different os, changing ownership etc :confused: Is it not possible?

It is possible. However you have to change the ownership to your user name, for all files, subfolders and files within said folders.
 
use the proper administrator account. run a command prompt as administrator (well the limited administrator you currently are). type this....

net user administrator /active:yes

now log off and you have a proper account at the logon screen. :)

Properties, Security, Advanced, Owner, Edit, Select User, Tick Replace box and it gets stuck with an Ignore, Retry Cancel popup :(

Ok I'll give that a go when i get home, cheers.

I take it that will just make the Administrator account visible at logon right?

That didnt work either, gave myself full access on both accounts and it says, as before:

Destination Folder Access Denied

You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this folder

Continue ...

You need permission to perform this action :confused:

... Hey Mr Gates! May I have permission to access this bloody folder?! :mad:

Im sure its not this hard on Vista32 :/
 
could try this..

have 7zip installed, right click it's shortcut and tick 'run as administrator', in there, press F9 to get two panes

browse to windows\system32 in the right pane, and in the left, go to where your file is

now drag into right pane


might work..
 
Its a known problem pre sevice pack 1, i take it you dont have service pack 1? if you dont get it. Oh and just to let you all know how great vista is, when i try to update to service pack 1 all it does is crash constantly untill i do a repair. I like vista, but way too many issues with it.

Im gonna give it a go on XP64 instead, cheers for all your input, really not sure what is going on, but cant be bothered to spent ridiculous amounts of time trying to figure this one out ;)

Hello sWiZzLe, I'm not sure the roll eyes were necessary to be honest, I didn't offend you in any way, I just simply asked you a question. The reason why I asked is because, you may find what you are trying to do can be simply resolved by copying that said file to another location since I honestly can't think of any situations that would require copying files to those locations you have mentioned. :)

can't speak for sWizzle but here some things i've done that require write access to system32.

1) editing my hosts file. if you're running a webserver and your router doesn't support nat loopback then you need to add your domain and point it to your own ip. or some people set up spam/advertising block lists/whatever......

2) installing BIND (dns server). it installs it's executable inside system32 and also it's config files which you need to edit manually. you can't choose where to install it.

3) or sometimes, i drop command line tools in system32 as well. means you don't have to type out the path when running them (i guess editing the PATH variable is an alternative option :p).

and even though i've answered the question, it is kind of irrelevant really. it should work no questions asked. i've had no problems doing any of this using the proper admin account. :)
 
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, i can copy things to those folders, just not the file i am trying to copy, which after discovering it was part of Visual Studio 2005 have decided to leave it well alone.

Sorry Fire Wizard i wasn't being sarcastic, it was a work around for a problem im having with Cubase 64.

Strange thing though..... I tried copying some files to those folders, but after refershing the folder they are nowhere to be seen :confused: Bit odd
