Behind you... Naked!
The Vista64 setup has come a long way in recent weeks, its now 6 weeks that I have been using it and I am now in acceptance that anything bad that I have ever said about vista has been wrong.

However, I still have a few niggles, but this one is one that is curable instantly in fact, but its cropping up now every 5 minutes and becoming a chore thats no longer funny...

I have found that it does it on my XFI Fatality and the Audigy 2 ZS

Now, I am currently using the ZS, so we will go on that for now, purely because, as I said it fdoes it on my XFI exactly the same, so swapping them over is not going to cure a thing.

Basically, the Card just suddenly decides that its no longer going to bother playing any sounds...

Just 15 minutes ago, I suddenly noticed the sound was now very echoey and when I hada look at the control panel for it, it was not playing the 2 front speakers, only the Center , Bass and Rear Speakers, but then, when I clicked on test, it didnt play the rear at all, so I played the test again, and this time it did play the rear right, and loud too as if it was a main speaker, but then nothing... on any of them?

I set them to just stereo and no sound at all and I put them back and again, Im hearing nothign.

Now, I had to reinstall the drivers only 3 or 4 days ago, and a week prior to that, and it seems that im only able to keep the setup playing audio for a max of about 5 days and the only cure I have so far, is a reinstall of the Drivers?

The cards are fine because I swap them with my XP64 PC and they work perfectly in that.

I have tried various PCI slots over time, and they make no difference either.

The Drivers Im using are

SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0001.EXE ( 35,734K )

Creative are notorious for dodgy drivers, and vista 64 it seems is even worse. Reason why I diched and went with the Asus DX.

Creative nice cards, &^*&ing &*&^ drivers!

Hinted at a cure? Thats no hint, its a kidnapping, and force-fed an advertisement campaign down my throat!!!

LOL

Seriously though I already have a xonar, ist a great card, however...

I need the Live Drive...

I need it for a few reasons

1 - My speakers have no headphone socket, the Live Drive gives me this.
2 - The Live Drive has AUX inputs - I need this
3 - The Live Drive has a Digital Coaxial Input - I need this too!
4 - The live Drive has a mic input - The kids needs this to get on my nerves

So, seriously, I need the Live Drive, the front panel thingy what-u-may-call-it.

The Xonar divent have that!

At this time, I seem to be forced to stick with the creative, and besides, its fine under XP64 so, Id rather go back to XP64 than lose the drive bay.

But XP64 and Vista64 are like chalk and cheese. And with the way Creative are supporting Vista your going to have a bit of a job on. Dunno just try googling for a few hoursand searching.

XP64 & Vista64 like Chalk and Cheese? Explain.

For me, While this PC is running Vista64 and has only minor irritating issues, its running Vista fairly well.
I have it running with the classic visuals, no irritating sidebar, no background, nohting. It looks pretty much the same as XP did, and that I made to look like my old Win2K box... Nice boring and basic.

I have not found a single reason to stick with Vista64 as I feel that it gives me nothing that XP64 cannot apart from such sillyness as the SoundCard actualyl works under XP64. I would like to also add that DirectX 10 is another reason, but after seeing COD5 I now see thats a useless gimmick too!

Whatever they are like, I have not had a single problem in over 3 years with any Creative card under XP64... Sure, all that software does not run fully under XP64 but thats actually a positive, and all the functions all work perfectly.

So, going back to XP64 is a strong possibility now.

Try searching for a few hours? Are you being funny? I have searched for a hell of a lot longer than that and in typical internet fashion, I have come across hundreds of people with hundreds of supposed cures but nothign that cures this.

But the fact remains... I really am liking Vista for its good points, and I do want to try to stick with it. I have spent enough money trying to get my software to be Vista compatible and the last thing I need right now is to spend even more to get my hardware to work under it too!

Have you tried changing the Pci latency timer from 32 to 64?

I had the same problems with my old set up and doing this fixed it, On my P5K Premium i dont have the options but i dont have the problem
