Vista64 memory issues

Hi I need some help

I have been running the 64bit version of vista ultimate for the last few months and I keep getting the same errors.

What happens is that my machine will show 100% memory useage (both ram and cache) if I try to do a few things at once ,for example I downloaded the half life 2 cinematique mod which is 3.5gb and once it get to around 70% the memory fills up and then the machine just slows to a crawl.

I have 4gb of ram and my windows install is on a 600gb raid 0 array so windows allocates around 6gb as a page file (so a total of 10gb memory) but it just seems as if windows is not emptying the cache the way XP used too.

I have tried altering the Cache within windows but it just makes my machine bluescreen, I am using the lates Nvidia raid drivers for my board but I cannot think what the issue could be.

If anyone has seen the same problem then I would appreciate the help

Thanks

It's bugged with Vista x64 iirc as well as low memory systems. Something to do with memory management in source 2. There's a fix but it didn't really help me much.

Thanks for the reply :) .

I was only using that file as an example the issue is regarding Vista not emptying cache or allocating more to the system when the memory gets full which then causes the machine to crawl to a standstill as the memory counter ticks upto 100% usage.

Try turning off superfetch and see what happens.

Burnsy

Did that and it still does the same thing.

It seems to happen most when using Winrar to uncompress a large archive (4gb+) but I just cannot get it too stop doing it.

I have updated my sata drivers to the lates Nvraid from the Nvidia wecsite but still no joy, this has really got me confused now as it is just a vista issue as far as I can remember XP never did this with 2 gigs of ram
