Just thought I'd see if fraps would think of vistas desktop as a 3d application and it did!

It even recorded the video playing in media player ;)

You see I wasn't sure if maybe only certain bits of Vista would be 3d accelerated, it still amazes me how it hardly even pushes the graphics card (power consumption of the PC is only about 4 watts more than XP)

Nice post. At long last people are finally starting to realise the power of the new graphics engine in Windows Vista

Hardware overlays are gone. Layered translucent windows are gone. GDI has gone. All replaced with a next-generation rendering engine called the 'desktop compositor' and Windows Presentation Foundation :)

Really like that statement, since some people around here recommend people to buy 512mb gfx card in stead of 256mb cards so they can "see aero fly"

Just checked my post from last week where I had tested the power consumption and noticed it was actually only 3 more watts at the desktop than in XP.

I wish there was some other way to see the usage of the gpu and vram like you can with the cpu. I don't suppose there's a bit of software to do just that is there? I've neever seen anything though

Will definitely be interesting to see what people use it for - at the moment it just brings a bit of nice looking animation to the table. The Alt-Tab previews are a nice bonus though.

I like the "Windows key + Tab " more :D

Yeah, I like the alt tab previews and the same with the previews when hovering over the taskbar the only thing I'm not sure about is the "Switch between Windows" thing where it lets you see all the windows you have open. I think they could have made it zoom in as you hover over them one by one because currently if like me you have about 10 windows open its pretty hard to see whats on the ones at the back!

That's true though. The more applications you have open the more texture memory is needed. Also multi monitor users will benefit from a 512MB card on Aero.

It would be better if it let you see all the windows at once though, rather than having to scroll through them. That's my one niggle with Flip3D. I was using the Betas for quite a while and I never really managed to get Flip3D into my workflow, I just used Alt+Tab all the time.

Counting down to the first decent Exposé clone. Should be much nicer than the hacks which existed for XP.
