i'm getting visual artifacts on my computer screen. i have amd hd radeon 4870 video card. i tested it with vmt but it passed. what could be the problem? does anyone have any ideas?

Do you have a screenshot of the artifacts? It could be for a number of reasons e.g a driver problem, card overheating, faulty memory, overclock to high, duff motherboard etc

I would start by checking temps for sure. It's a fairly old card now perhaps there is dust clogging the cooler. Check cpu temps too.

they are just horizontal lines flickering from top to bottom. they are sometimes blue and sometimes white. i reinstalled the amd drivers. i cleaned the fan and dust and its not been overclocked. the idle card temp is 60 and cpu temp is 60 so i don't know what is causing it.

Does you're motherboard or cpu have an onboard gpu you could test with? Or a different card. Sounds like the card could be dying.

don't have onboard gpu but however its stopped artifacting for now. i still don't know what is causing it. i gotta check if the fan is failing. i think the card is good

Horizontal lines flicking across the screen for me has been a sign of unstable VRAM.

But it could be a number of things.

i get lines/artifacts on one game only,,,need for speed most wanted,,,has only happened since my upgrade to windows 10 and didnt happen with windows 7,,,i can get rid of it by going to graphics settings and clicking on apply settings then runs great with no problems,,

do you get it in every game or just one?
