Visual Effects Student building PC from scratch

Hey, as stated above I'm a second year Visual effects and Motion graphics student.

My laptop has gone to pot and is too slow for my HD video editing and rendering (some 3D) so I'm going to build my first PC..

I need some guidance on some parts I might be unaware of and some prices you find acceptable, looking for a lot of RAM(16-32GB, prepherably 16 because I can always upgrade) and a good processor but a high end graphics card is NOT at the top of my priority list.

Can anyone who knows anything give me a nudge in where to look and what I should be prepared to pay?

Basically something fast and powerful I'm hoping to build and to save a couple quids along the way

Done a spec below with the Intel i7 4770k cpu and 16gb of ram, I have put a reasonable card in there but this can be dropped and use onboard GPU or install a lower end card.
