Hello
I have a long running, ever evolving project of tweaking my home network with the next plan being the addition of a couple of HD IP CCTV cameras. After starting shopping around and doing research etc I came across a forum post suggesting that IP CCTV installations should be installed on their own VLAN to reduce any degraded performance elsewhere on the network.
Now I assume these cameras should only send significant data under the following scenarios
1) When they detect motion - This will initiate a recording onto my NAS drive (they do not continually record, just on in-built motion detection)
2) When streaming the feed to the internet - This will only be me initiating the feed when I am away from home
Given the above, and if my assumption is correct, am I correct in thinking there would be no benefit to setting up a VLAN for the CCTV and a VLAN for everything else?
Your advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mike
