VLC 2.0 released for Mac

Thanks, not showing up as an update within the app itself (version 1.1.12).

Yeah I noticed that. I wonder if the 1.1.12 version will just be checking for updates within 1.0. And then 2.0 will check for future updates within 2.0.

Wow, this new UI is a bit different to what I was expecting!

One bad thing though, the VLC full screen is the Lion "full screen". Meaning I can't set VLC to full screen on the external monitor without losing the desktop on the laptop screen. Very very annoying, but I believe this is to be changed/fixed in Mountain Lion.

Edit: Phew, there's an option within VLC to return to previous behaviour! :)

Yeah I agree - I wish they didn't do the full screen as they've done it. When you're watching something and go to fullscreen, the video pauses (but continues playing as you can hear the audio) and then once it's fullscreen it continues playing.

And like you say, if you're using a second monitor to play video you can't use the original screen while playing video. Little annoying...

Ooops I must have missed it :p Phew that's good :p

Very buggy. Half size, original size, double size most of the time do not work when you set it to "fit the screen" or if you "maximize it" with button. This was reported in all betas, it still has not changed. A complete re-write of the engine but still no frame by frame scan, the single most requested feature on OSX in whole 1.* development... Bottom bar doesn't size properly, so items smaller than 600 pixels end up with pillarboxes in "original size".

Love the gui tho.

Great update! Im so excited about the faster decoding, can open more file formats including HD and experimental Blu-ray support, think now I need to do less convertings with iFunia, and just watch my videos with VLC 2.0 smoothly!

its a bit of a cpu hog :( been playing the same mkvs that i played before the update on my mini and the temps have gone up with the load at about 80% might downgrade for a bit see if its me just been picky or vlc
