As above, works by managing the blu ray license issue through the internet so you need to be online but its not a major issue these days.

Realise there's software which does it now but its either a) rubbish or b) Expensive, so looking forward to this!

2.0 'Release Candidate' is available now, but BR support is in beta.
They expect support to be working as they intend by 2.2 which will be released 'quickly after 2.0'

Assuming they are leaving 2.1 free for minor fixes in-between

first read about this on engadget and in the comments people were discussing the fact that although it will allow blu-ray playback, it doesnt get around the encryption meaning it wont work for films etc....which for me atleast, would make it pretty pointless!

or is that what you ment Alpherah with regards to the licensing and needing to be online?
Does that get around it?

Yeah .. kinda.
No idea how it works now, as its just beta, but the ambition is to get it working via internet de-encryption like other companies software has achieved (and costs lots of $$$ to buy).
