VLC - Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I've recently built a HTPC..

+ Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H Intel H55.
+ RAM - 4GB DDR3 - OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 (1333MHz) Low-Voltage Dual Channel (OCZ3G1333LV4GK) [OCZ3G1333LV4GK]
+ Using onboard sound and graphics
+ Windows 7 32bit
+ Processor - Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz (Not Overclocked)
+ Connected to HDMI tv using the HDMI port.

I have transfered some DVDs to it so they can be played from the TV. The problem I am having is that VLC keeps freezing up the image after around 25mins, however the sound will either continue to run problem free in the background or the pc will completely lockup completely with a buzzing sound coming from the TV speakers. I have used VLC on a different PC before without the same problems. Does anyone know what would most likely be the cause of this problems.

Have tried running prime95 as suggested, after about 40mins the PC had restarted. I have since used CPU ID to check the ram and noticed that it is recognised as OCZ3G1333LV2G which is running at 7-7-7-16 and not OCZ3G1333LV4GK running at 9-9-9-20 as listed on overclockers. Will call them today to sort the problem out.

Would it not be quicker to go into your bios and manually set the timings? It appears you ram has autoselected to run faster than it should be.
Is it actually set to run at 1333, or has it deafulted to 1066, and thus set faster timings?

What were your CPU and motherboard temps by the end of the 40 minutes of running prime?
Memory might be a tumbling block, but the issue sounds more like overheating to me.

What case and what cooling are you using?
 
I contacted Overclockers earlier today and they suggested I try doing that first, I wasn't sure about doing this at first as I'd never tried adjusting anything in the bios other the standard settings. I have now adjusted the timings to 9-9-9-20 and adjusted the voltage 1.64. The ram was listed at 1.65 but that was closest my motherboard would allow. I have left Prime95 running now for the last 3 hours and it is still going now. It looks as though this has hopefully cured the problem as previousley it would run for about 30 -40 mins, all I have been using it for is for internet, popcap games and watching films converted from VCR tapes. I take it the higher the timing numbers the slower the ram? it is still set as 1066 but bios will allow 1333.
Case I am using is an Antec NSK 2480, it has '2' 120mm fans at side. PSU behind partition in case.

It looks as though the problem was with my RAM not VLC it just so happened the fault occurred when using VLC. I have since bought an OEM version of Power DVD 9 for £3.50. Is MPC 'Media Player Classic' ? if so, I have heard of it but never used it before. Power DVD seems fine sometimes but seems to display the videos too bright quite often, despite adjusting the limited settings it has I can never seem to get it just right for everything. I may decide to go back to VLC now that I know it was not at fault originally but will still give MPC a try though. Thanks for the info.
 
Instead of PowerDVD you may also have the option to adjust video brightness via the graphics driver. Look for the Overlay section (on ATI it's only active while playing a video that uses overlay).

I did like Arcsoft TMT, but I found it threw Windows 7 Ultimate x64 back to Windows Basic colour scheme every time it loaded a movie. What's that all about? :( I've settled on Splash Player now; it incorporates Nvidia PureVideo and is just lovely. I use MPC-HC for anything else. :)
