VLC or Media Player Classic ?

I use MPC-HC simply because it can use Video For Windows filters alongside it's built in ones. So I can have the benefits of Core AVC's amazing H.264 decoder and AC3Filter for DTS etc, and use FFDShow if I wish.

Mainly use VLC as I prefer the interface

As above. And it always does everything I want without issues.

MPC-HC has some valuable features that VLC does not (extended vsync, shaders, remember file position on exit for multiple files, audio/subtitle time syncing controls, manual crop/spanning etc etc).

VLC most certainly does, I wouldn't use it if it didn't.

I have used VLC for years and so far 0 issues. That's using lots of different file formats over the years as well.

One thing I wish VLC had is the ability to shut down your PC on end of playlist, but that doesn't bother me really.

Still using VLC here. Sure, it probably doesn't do half the stuff that MPC-HC does, but I've never found a file it won't play :)

I love MPC-HC and play most of my movie file types through it, but it won't play .rmvb files so I have to use VLC for that.
Out of interest does anyone know how I can get it to play these real media files?
I have the alternative real media codec installed, but MPC-HC doesn't seem to want to use it :(

MPC-HC for anything MKV related.
VLC for everything else.

VLC is hit hard by not having hardware h.264 decoding, and doesn't handle high def films well.
Unless things have changed in the last year or so??

It would not since the other site contains MPC-HC in development builds whereas the sourceforge one is no longer updated.

this is true as the latest build for windows 7 64x is 1.3.1735.0 where as the build on the sourceforge is 1.3. 1249

vlc, got mpc installed, just have everything defaulted to open with vlc.

only use mpc to check when a video doesn't play, is it vlc or is the file corrupt, lets find out!

used to use vlc but have had issues in the past not decoding properly so moved to mpc and never looked back :)
