Hiya, I have just bought a new HTPC which has the following:
Intel Celeron-1037U
128gb SSD
4GB DDR3 memory

I have it connected to my VT50 Panasonic plasma with the idea of sticking XBMC on it and using it mainly as a streaming device but also to play back local media to take the place of my popcorn hour.

I have tested a few MKV files that play back perfectly on my main pc and the video stutters ever so slightly quite regularly during playback - I am not sure if VLC is dropping frames or if it is a 24fps issue??

I would have thought the Celeron-1037U would have been able to handle quite low bitrate MKV files so can this be fixed??

Which OS is it?

Try MPC-BE if it's Windows.

Or just try XBMC,

Thanks for the info - the htpc came with a fresh install of windows 8.1.

I have downloaded Media Player Classic and the motion looks nice and smooth with no stuttering - just as a test I simultaneously opened the same 1080p MKV in MPC and VLC and they both played fine.

Whatever was causing the stutter seems to have gone (maybe Windows was updating or running a scan) whatever it was seems to have gone and everything is playing just fine now.
