VM 20 > 30 meg upgrade

I reckon this is the best thread to ask in.

Tomorrow Virgin are coming to 'install' my Superhub and hopefully get me up to 50 meg (yeah I know it's the 20 to 30 thread).
Will they be able to just replace my old modem with the Superhub and then my Linksys WRT54GL just plugs into it as normal?
Could there be a problem that the Linksys might not be able to do 50 meg?

My problem is that I'm cabled in and to get the cables where the Superhub is would be a problem.
I suppose I could get him to lengthen the Virgin cable and put it where my Linksys is.
Obviously having one less box on would be an advantage.

Thanks

The Superhub comes with a mile long Ethernet cable so you should be fine although the WRT won't handle 50MB on wireless and I'm not sure if it's going to manage wired either due to the WAN<>LAN throughput.

You can run the SuperHub in modem only mode via a hack (posted earlier) too.

The old modem won't work unless it's DOCSIS 3 and only then VM will have to accept it on to the network which they won't do :p

Thanks for that.
It now makes sense that he extends the VM cable about 12 foot so it goes to the back of my computer.
From there I can just connect my 4 ethernet cables that go to various things.
It's also one less electrical box.

This man speaks the true. My WRT54GS maxes out at 13Mbps. My new hub gets 30Mbps via wireless. :-)

I feel like crying....gone from a 60mb/s 50% off VM deal to a flakey 10mb/s BT line (Talk Talk) to a Plusnet 10GB monthly usage. . . .. ..why did i move back home? oh yeah to pay off my credit card quicker but jesus. Asked my Dad why he would pick such a p*ss poor package when i told him UNLIMITED, only to hear "but its unlimted between midnight & 8am"..... must...find...shotgun. ....and move out again.

Tell your dad to get Virgin, then?

I didn't appear to get a mile long ethernet cable with my Superhub..

Speeds seem good though.

[edit]

Now I've bypassed the Superhub and using my old WRT54GL and my ping is a lot better.

I am getting massive packet loss tonight! Internet is slow as hell.

Any one else getting this?
