VM and Licensing

A bit confused with the licensing requirments for VM on WS2003 standard R2.

Can i run 1 physical and 1 virtual per license? (same box)

According to Microsoft's virtualization calc you will need 2 copies of Standard. Enterprise can have up to 4 (iirc) VMs

thats what got me thinking, i was sure i read somewhere last year standard allowed one free instance. Damn MS......
